Building a Website:
The NYC Insider Guide
I have lived, worked and traveled extensively. I had a ton of friends and colleagues from around country and the world. Just about everyone gets to NYC at one point or another, so all New Yorkers know to be careful in saying, "Sure, give me a call when you visit."
The idea for the
NYC Insider Guide came when I tried to help a friend who was planning her New York City vacation from another country.
For all of the amazing information online about NYC, little of it was targeted to visitors wanting to live like a "real New Yorker," a more sophisticated traveler or someone who had already been here and seen most of the typical tourist attractions.
I had once tried to build a website. Actually, I had hired several people and spent $1,000's, to help me in my efforts in building a website which got me no where.
The people who could make it look good did not understand how to make it functional and useful and the people who could do both graphic design and manage a site were way out of my budget, none less than $5,000 for the initial cost and then an ongoing monthly fee. Plus, I felt like I needed an interpreter just to understand what they said they were going to do.
Somehow, I found Site Build It (SBI) – and they provided me everything I needed to design
the site, help people find it, make money on it, create a blog and everything else you could ever want your website to do. I didn't have to worry about figuring out anything or hiring anyone. And the price was ridiculously low (almost too low, actually) given what they were offering.
I figured after spending all that time on other designers, I had nothing to lose. What was another $300 at that point? And guess what, they delivered
FAR MORE than I even expected from the $5,000+ other companies charge.
As it turns out it took me far more time to try and communicate to someone else what I wanted than it did just to do it myself for free. And now that I'm on the other side, I know those companies were overcharging me - and making it so I had to go back to them if I wanted to make any changes.
I love what I do - and I'm making a living at it!
In this economy, I'm not worried about getting fired or not liking my boss. And my sole job is to experience the city I love and tell others about it so they can experience it as well.
Good luck to everyone who wants to try building a website! You
