Disclaimer Statement
Is a Website
Disclaimer Necessary?
Well, that really depends on
your site theme and the content.
For some, a website disclaimer will be
a must, for others optional.
First, let's take a look at the purpose
for a disclaimer. . .
In essence, disclaimers are statements that
convey a warning, rights,
obligations, limitations, and/or the scope of responsibilities in order
to prevent harm.
A
website disclaimer
usually includes a waiver of responsibility in the
event of unintended outcomes.
Personally, I think it is a good idea
to at least address the issue of visitor expectations in the form of
disclaimers.
It couldn't be quicker or easier. (And it might very well
save you from a huge headache in the future!)
As
you know, there are so many different types of people who have varying
expectations that it is virtually impossible to please all your
visitors 100% of the time.
Acknowledging that your website provides
information to help visitors but can not guarantee universal
satisfaction is a reasonable precaution to take in the event that a
very unhappy person attempts to hold you accountable for unrealistic
outcomes.
