Do I Use a Online File Hosting Service to Add Wav Sound Files

How Do I Add a Wav Sound File to My Website?
What sort of online file hosting service would I use if I wanted to build a small website that included wav sound files or mp3 files. Do you know what the extra cost would be, if any?
I am a musician trying to market my music program. By attaching a snippet of music, it would answer questions potential customers would have.
Do the smaller website builders, i.e. Intuit, offer space for a wav file or mp3?
Hi Barbara,
What a wonderful idea for a website! The internet is a great way to build your business and your credibility at the same time.
The quick answer is some do and some don't.
Many online file hosting services or website hosting providers charge an extra fee for hosting different file types, including wav sound files. The extra charges are usually based on file size. The larger the file size, the higher the fees.
But to be honest, I don't know which website builder programs and hosting services include the ability to upload a variety of file extensions and which ones do not or what their fee structure might be . (You'll definately need to read the fine print!)
On the other hand the website builder and hosting service I use,
SBI, includes an entire suite of website building tools and services in their monthly fee of $29.99 (Or $299 annually) so I don't ever have to pay any "add on" type of expenses or extra fees.
While I have't ever used use any music files on either of my sites I did check and the specific media file types that SBI accommodates as part of their hosting service includes:
.avi, .mov, .mp3, .mpeg, .mpg, .pps,
.ppt, .qt, .ra, .ram, .rm, .wav, .wma, .wmv
The other file extensions that SBI accomodates are:
• Page files: .html
• Includes: .shtml
• Image-files: .gif, .jpg, .jpeg, .png
• Support files: .css, .flv, .js, .pdf, .swf, .tex, .txt, .xml, .zip, .exe
Other smaller website builders that also include hosting your web site and online file hosting might as well but I would suggest that you contact a customer service rep. to be sure that their service can accommodate everything you wish to accomplish on your website.
As a start to your research, why not call
SBI to talk to a real live person to pick their brains so you can begin to gather the information that you need? (Sometimes when starting off there are those evitable questions that you didn't even know you needed to ask but are really important to know ahead of time; especially with a specialty site on music like the one you are planning on building.)
Even if you don't end up chosing to use SBI, they'll be happy to chat with you and you'll learn a lot of valuable information. (I tortured them endlessly with months of questions before I decided on them as the website builder and hosting service for my sites.)
I wish I knew more about music sites and wav sound files so I could be more helpful but that just isn't my forte. . .
Here's SBI's number if you want to pick their brains as you research which website builder and hosting service will work the best for you:
SBIGood Luck!
Please come back and share the link to your website when you get it launched! I'd love to see it. . .
